Dear PES Members,
The Board of Directors had the opportunity to visit the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel this week in preparation for our Annual Meeting in May. The Gaylord, and the surrounding harbor, is a spectacular place to have a meeting! The hotel sits on the bank of the Potomac River and offers beautiful views along with ample spaces for posters and exhibits, for networking and collaboration, and for socializing with old and new friends. Within a short walk from the hotel, attendees can take a river cruise, rent a kayak or paddle boat, ride a ferris wheel, walk or jog or bike along the river, find many restaurants and shops, and even show off their artistic skills at a local paint bar. The hotel is a 20-minute cab ride from Reagan National Airport and from DC activities if one wants to venture out. The combination of the setting and the great content that the Program Committee (led by Co-Chairs Roopa Kanakatti Shankar and Molly Regelmann) is organizing is sure to make for a wonderful meeting. As you know, the initial call for abstracts has already gone out and can be found here. Please plan to join us in May!

Upstander training is built upon the framework of IQEE (Interrupt. Question. Educate. Echo) adopted with permission from the Learning for Justice project from the Southern Poverty Law Center. The skills acquired may be used from the witness or victim perspective: however, the main focus is on building strength for others to Speak Up so the responsibility is no longer left to the person who has been victimized but upon the other people who listened or watched. The program also addresses how to be the best ally and overcome the pitfalls of allyship. The goal is to have everyone become UPSTANDERS to actively change culture and policy to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for ALL.

Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital CME-accredited Virtual Course, Clinical Endocrinology 2025
The course will be fully virtual, from March 26 to March 30, 2025, and is now open for registration.

The objective of this course is to provide an update for endocrinologists and to allow internists and other health care providers to be comfortable with clinical problems in endocrinology. We will present our approach to such common problems as pituitary tumors, thyroid abnormalities, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, osteoporosis, menopause, reproductive dysfunction, as well as a broad spectrum of other clinical problems in endocrinology. The faculty of 48 speakers, primarily Harvard Medical School faculty and several select outside experts, chosen for their recognized educational and communication skills, present the most up-to-date, evidence-based approach to endocrine problems such as osteoporosis, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, pituitary tumors, menopause, thyroid abnormalities, and reproductive dysfunction, as well as a broad spectrum of other clinical problems in endocrinology, such as obesity.
Each day is organized around one of the major topics to be covered: pituitary disease on Wednesday; reproductive and adrenal disorders on Thursday; thyroid disease on Friday; calcium and bone disorders on Saturday; diabetes and metabolic disorders on Sunday. Special emphasis is given to the case study method in 90-minute problem sessions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Two of these sessions will include a nurse or nurse practitioner to provide a nursing perspective on the topic. A comprehensive syllabus is provided.
Now in its 50th year, this update in Endocrinology is offered by the staff of the Endocrine Division of Massachusetts General Hospital with selected guest speakers from around the country. Attendees have participated from over 50 US states and territories, and over 60 other countries. The virtual livestream format enhances access to the course for international health care providers. Course participants are asked to fill out an extensive evaluation form that covers all aspects of the course.

PES Survey – Perceptions of Pediatric Endocrinology Fellows’ Understanding of Automated Insulin Delivery Systems
Dear Colleagues,
We are developing a curriculum to enhance pediatric endocrinology fellow education about the use of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems in the care of youth living with type 1 diabetes. To develop a curriculum that will address fellows’ educational needs, it is essential to understand perceptions of fellows’ education, knowledge, and skills related to these technologies.
We hope to capture the unique perspectives of fellows and attending physicians who supervise fellows to develop the best possible understanding of the topic.
