Claire Moore, MD
My name is Claire Moore, and I am currently the third-year pediatric endocrinology fellow at Northwestern University/Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. I grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and graduated from Harvard College with a BA in History and Literature. Following college, I lived in New York City and Seattle before attending medical school at Georgetown University. I completed pediatrics residency at Brown University/Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island.
Early in residency, I found myself drawn to pediatric endocrinology cases during months on the wards. I liked the variety of the work, the reliability of lab values to confirm suspicions on history and physical exam, and the discussions around new and often lifelong diagnoses.
I am very grateful to the exceptional mentors in residency and fellowship who have helped me identify opportunities to expand upon clinical knowledge and hone research interests. At Brown, Drs. Lisa Swartz Topor, Monica Serrano Gonzalez, Meghan Fredette, and JB Quintos were my role models, and their dedication to medical education inspired my own. At Lurie, Drs. Reema Habiby, Juan Lado, Laura Torchen, and Jill Samis have been clinical mentors. I work with Drs. Mónica Bianco, Sean DeLacey, Naomi Fogel, and Jennifer Miller on research and quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
My clinical interests remain broad and include general endocrinology and diabetes. My research during fellowship relates to early detection of hyperglycemia in patients with cystic fibrosis using continuous glucose monitors. I am also engaged in a medical education track and am completing a team-based course in QI science. Through these programs, I have developed a project related to improving patient mastery of type 1 diabetes self-management topics and skills prior to transition of care, and I am involved in a QI project to increase periprocedural calcium screening rates for patients with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.
