Dear PES Members,
Having just sent a couple messages earlier in the month, I will keep this note brief.
As you know, registration for our Annual Meeting has opened. Please plan to join us in Maryland. In addition to other activities, the meeting will provide us an opportunity to congratulate this year’s PES Laurette Award Winners and Named Lecturers.
Congratulations to:
2025 Judson J Van Wyk Prize: David B. Allen, MD
2025 Senior Investigator Award: Maureen Su, MD
2025 Educator Award: Patricia Vuguin, MD
2025 Clinician Award: Robert Rapaport, MD
2025 New Investigator Award: Laura Jacobsen, MD
2025 Outstanding Mentor Award: Andrew Muir, MD
2025 Blizzard Lecturer: Steve Rosenthal, MD
2025 Kaplowitz Lecturer: Jessica Schmitt, MD
2025 Lawson Wilkins Lecturer: Ursula Kaiser, MD
If you did not read it (or even if you did!), please look back at the January President’s Letter and my goal of celebrating unsung heroes at this year’s Annual Meeting. Please send me a story (can be very short) of someone you think should be celebrated. I need more profiles! (mark.palmert@sickkids.ca with cc to Maureen Thompson at maureen@degnon.org.)
Finally, see below for news and many PES-related activities/opportunities. As always, read all the way to the end; there are many things happening.
Kind Regards,

Mark Palmert, MD

The Biological Reality of Sex and Intersex: A Response to the Executive Order, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”
What is the reason for this Statement?
This Statement responds to the Executive Order, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” signed by President Trump on January 20, 2025. As leading experts in Pediatric Endocrinology and the biological processes involved in the development of the reproductive tract, we write to provide more complete information on the definition of biological sex. The proposed definitions of biological sex within the Executive Order should not and cannot apply to people born with biological conditions known as Differences of Sex Development (DSD). (Other words used for this group of conditions include: “disorders of sex development”, “variations of sex characteristics”, “variations of sex development”, and “intersex conditions”.)
