Dear Colleagues,
As September winds down, I find myself reflecting on the past month, and I can't stop humming Earth, Wind & Fire's "Do you remember, the 21st night of September?" September always feels like a reflective month for me.
This month reminds me of milestones, celebrations, and changes on the horizon. In particular, we marked the 25th anniversary of September 11th, and with it, a reflection on how many of our practices have changed since. As unrest continues to grow around the world, let's remember how acts of kindness can unite people. But life-altering changes don't need to be large or global. When we tell a patient about a new diagnosis, or educate a family in the NICU, ED, or outpatient setting, we must remember how those words may change their lives. Often, we're thinking about pending consults and outstanding patient messages, tempted to rush through, but take a moment to pause. Our words will stay with them.
This month, members may also reflect on their own roles and how to make amends or make the world a little better. Simple acts of respect and acknowledgment go a long way: holding the door for someone in the parking garage, greeting our front desk or unit staff, using a patient's or colleague's correct name and pronouns, and sometimes, simply apologizing.
As pediatricians at heart, and as I mentioned last month, we also need to practice anticipatory guidance and stay aware of what's on the horizon. With the start of new fiscal calendars come new changes, including state and federal policies and laws. Members need to be aware of the broad impact that proposed changes to insurance and access to medications and resources may have on our patients. How will these changes affect our patients and families? How can we advocate for their care?
And finally, to make a larger impact, don't forget to register to vote this election cycle. Make your voice heard on local, state, and national issues.

Committee Spotlight: NEW Professional Development Committee
Meet the newly formed PES Professional Development Committee! Formerly part of the Education Committee, this group has been reorganized to better support the growing number of PES educational and professional development initiatives.
Our 44 member-volunteers remain focused on advancing the professional growth of current and future pediatric endocrinologists through mentorship, networking, career development, and examination preparation.
There is plenty ahead this year. The Resident/Medical Student Subcommittee will offer four interactive SEED Program sessions and is developing the next PedsENDO Discovery Program for students and residents attending the 2027 PES Annual Meeting.
For fellows, the committee continues to develop flipped-classroom learning modules, host PedsENDO365 webinars, and organize the annual Spring Fellows’ Retreat, which brings 24 fellows together for networking, career exploration, and shared learning.
The Board Review Course Subcommittee is also preparing for the in-person 2027 Board Review Course, held just before the PES Annual Meeting, while the Regional Meetings Subcommittee continues to provide grants that help support pediatric endocrinology meetings across the country.
We’re excited about the year ahead and the many ways these programs will support the next generation and continued growth of pediatric endocrinology professionals.

This CME-accredited course provides an update for endocrinologists and helps internists and other health care providers address common clinical problems in endocrinology. Topics include pituitary tumors, thyroid abnormalities, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, osteoporosis, menopause, reproductive dysfunction, calcium and bone disorders, and adrenal disorders. The program features 58 speakers, primarily Harvard Medical School faculty along with selected outside experts, and includes case-based problem sessions.
