Great news regarding Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program!
One of the key recommendations of the PES Workforce Taskforce is to advocate for policies that lessen financial barriers
to pediatric endocrinology to both improve recruitment and reduce the effect of debt on risk of burnout.
On March 23rd we received notification from Matthew Mariani, Federal Advocacy Policy Associate for the AAP, that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 omnibus spending bill signed by President Biden last week includes $5 million for the Pediatric Specialties Loan Repayment Program. He describes this as “an enormous victory for the pediatric subspecialty and patient advocacy community” and pledges to continue “advocating for increased funding for the program in FY 2023 and beyond, a task that we hope will be easier once the tangible benefits of loan repayment begin to be felt.”
