Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is essential for maintaining bone health and also has other potential health benefits. While some of these other health benefits are not yet well defined, vitamin D is important for achieving and maintain optimal bone density, prevention of rickets and osteomalacia. Because of this, vitamin D is a frequently supplemented vitamin in the clinical setting. Multiple preparations with varying concentrations may result in injudicious use.
