Roberto Lanes M.D.
Born in Caracas on May 19, 1948; Died in Toronto on July 28, 2024
Dr. Lanes, an internationally known pediatric endocrinologist who was originally from Caracas Venezuela died in Toronto last month from pancreatic cancer. Dr. Lanes completed his pediatric residency at Beth Israel Hospital in NYC and his fellowship at Johns Hopkins under Dr. Claude Migeon. He worked with Dr Fima Lifshitz at North Shore Hospital before moving back to Venezuela where he made important contributions to its pediatric endocrinology program of research and teaching. Dr. Lanes recently moved to Canada and lived there in exile due to political turmoil in his home country. Dr. Lanes was instrumental in the development of pediatric endocrinology in Latin American countries where he worked with SLEP leaders to create fellowships for trainees.
