Amanda G. Perkins, MSN, MPH, CPNP, CDCES
Amanda is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist practicing at Children’s National Hospital (CNH) in Washington, DC since 2019. She’s had diverse roles in the division, including inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine care, clinical research, quality improvement, and precepting nurse practitioner students. Prior to joining CNH, she practiced pediatric endocrinology at Greenville Children’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina for ten years and, after completing a master’s in public health, worked for several years on international maternal-child health research at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Her current research and quality improvement work at CNH focuses on improving equity in technology use and research representation among children and adolescents with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. She is a member of the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange Collaborative where she is part of the Hybrid Closed Loop Working Group. Since 2017, she has been a Life for a Child mentor in Liberia where she develops and delivers education on diabetes management for local clinicians. She lives just outside of Washington DC with her husband and her 8- and 10-year-old daughters.
