Jessika Weber, DO
My name is Jessika, and I am a current 2nd year Pediatric Endocrinology Fellow at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. I received my undergraduate training in Montana at the University of Providence where I played collegiate volleyball as a setter and defensive specialist. I served as team captain in my Junior and Senior years. I attended medical school at Midwestern University – Arizona College of Medicine. I joined the Air Force in my third year of medical school and did my residency training at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) in San Antonio, TX. I stayed in San Antonio for a chief resident year, which has so far been the most formative year of my life. I also spent a year working at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center (WHASC) as a general pediatrician, where I worked closely with medical students and residents both inpatient and outpatient.
Clinically, I am interested in puberty, Disorders of Sexual Development, Turner syndrome, and general Endocrinology and Diabetes. I am currently pursuing a Master of Education in Health Professions through the University of Utah. I have a passion for MedEd and research in MedEd and see my career as an education practitioner, scholar, and leader. I am a member of the Fellow Education and Patient Handout subcommittees in PES and through participation in these subcommittees have already gotten opportunities to help create educational materials used at a national level and receive amazing mentorship.
I took an Endocrinology elective rotation during my intern year. I noticed that as an Endocrinologist, you can promote independence through technologies, medical interventions, and positive affirmations of self. I immediately saw myself in this role for my future career. I also had the opportunity to attend a diabetes camp. That experience gave me invaluable insight into the daily life of this unique patient population.
My program director during my time in pediatric residency, Dr. Candace Percival, is a pediatric endocrinologist. She helped me to cultivate my passion for both Endocrinology and Med Ed. She provided an exceptional example of strong and persistent advocacy for both patients and residents. I strive to emulate her calm, confident style of leadership.
