Mission:
The incidence of the pediatric thyroid disease is increasing including mild and borderline forms of congenital hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid nodules, and pediatric thyroid cancer. A significant number of children have abnormal thyroid function as a response to obesity. There is growing interest in setting specialized thyroid clinics and using point of care ultrasound. The Thyroid Special Interest Group aims to support pediatric endocrinologists providing special thyroid care to improve outcomes and train the future generations of pediatric endocrinologists.
We intend to provide support and guidance for the pediatric endocrinology community to improve overall care of patients with thyroid condition, by addressing 4 main aims:
1. Standardized medical treatment of a thyroid conditions based on models of state-of-the art care.
2. Supporting research initiatives focused on treating thyroid nodules and pediatric thyroid cancers, as well as other thyroid conditions through collaborations with Child and Adolescent Thyroid Consortium (CATC), American Thyroid Association (ATA) and etc.
3. Provide educational resources for training patients, physicians and fellows.
4. Advocacy for access/reimbursement to novel diagnostic and treatment modalities for patients with thyroid conditions
Goals and Objectives:
1. Form small groups to address each aim, and identify specific projects that will be undertaken.
- Increase our visibility within the PES: Announce our formation on the website, promote membership in our SIG and solicit ideas for projects from the PES members.
- Invite collaboration with CATC, ATA,
- Schedule bimonthly zoom conferences and face-to-face meetings.
- Propose topics for PES webinars and meeting agenda.
