Mission Statement
Pediatric adrenal gland disorders include a wide variety of acquired and genetic conditions that require interdisciplinary care. The PES Adrenal SIG is a professional network of PES members with an interest in adrenal gland disorders in children.
• Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH)
• Adrenocortical tumors
• Pheochromocytoma
• Primary hyperaldosteronism
• Cushing’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome
• Addison’s disease
• Primary adrenal insufficiency
• Secondary adrenal insufficiency
• Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD)
• Adrenal suppression
• Testing of the HPA axis
Goals and Objectives
1. Patient care: Review and disseminate best practices for management
2. Education: Develop training materials to educate pediatricians, other primary care providers and patients
3. Research: Identify research priorities and facilitate research and clinical collaborations
4. Community: Serve as a professional network of pediatric endocrinologists with an interest in adrenal gland disorders
Next Steps (2-3 Year Plan)
1. Form small groups to address each aim, and identify specific projects that will be undertaken to accomplish those aims
2. Increase our visibility within the PES: Announce our formation on the website, promote membership in our SIG and solicit ideas for projects from the PES members
3. Organize SIG programming at the annual PES meeting
4. Identify latest resources (review articles, webinars, etc.) and provide links to access those materials on the PES website
5. Organize educational webinars for members of the American Academy of Pediatrics and other such organizations
6. Propose topics/ workshops/ MOC for the PES meeting agenda
7. Schedule regular teleconferences and/or face-to-face meetings in conjunction with the annual PES meeting
