Mission Statement
Hypoglycemia disorders are rare, but their consequences in children can be severe and have a lasting impact. The PES Hypoglycemia Disorders Special Interest Group (SIG) aims to improve the diagnosis and management of infants and children with hypoglycemia disorders through education, clinical care standardization, research and advocacy.
Goals and Objectives
- Education
- Develop and disseminate educational materials to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and management of pediatric hypoglycemia disorders among pediatric endocrinologists.
- Develop and disseminate educational materials to improve the identification and diagnosis of children with hypoglycemia disorders among neonatologists and pediatricians.
- Develop and disseminate education materials about hypoglycemia for patients and families.
- Clinical Care Standardization
- Disseminate published care guidelines for hypoglycemia disorders.
- Create clinical practice tools to aid in early detection, standardized evaluation, and appropriate management of hypoglycemia disorders in children.
- Foster collaboration among pediatric endocrinologists and clinicians with expertise in hypoglycemia disorders.
- Research
- Promote research initiatives focused on advancing knowledge and improving outcomes for children with congenital and acquired hypoglycemia disorders.
- Advocacy
- Advocate for improved access to care, appropriate treatments, and increased awareness of these conditions within the medical community and beyond.
- Advocate for increase funding for research initiatives impacting hypoglycemia disorders in children.
- Partner with existing family organization to increase awareness and advocate for better treatments and resources for children with hypoglycemia disorders.
