Mission Statement
Advanced practice providers (APPs) include nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs), functioning in various specialized healthcare roles. Pediatric endocrine APPs are trained to care for all endocrine diagnoses. The Pediatric Endocrine Society APP Special Interest Group (PES APP SIG) provides a community for pediatric endocrine APPs—promoting professional growth, strengthening the presence of APPs within PES, and advancing pediatric endocrine APP practice in collaboration with our physician colleagues.
The PES APP SIG will serve as a community of APPs and other interested PES members who collaborate to strengthen pediatric endocrinology APP practice through support, education, and advocacy.
Aim
The PES APP SIG is focused on the unique education and practice needs of pediatric endocrine APPs, thereby aligning with the PES strategic plan goals of supporting the pediatric endocrine workforce, increasing interprofessional membership and involvement, providing high-quality clinical education, and advocating for the needs of patients, their families and our members.
Goals
- Develop APP leadership opportunities within PES.
- Encourage APP publication.
- Provide a networking home for PES APP members.
- Mentor novice pediatric endocrine APPs through the PES mentor-mentee match program.
- Promote APP involvement in annual PES conferences.
- Sustain APP membership in PES and the PES APP SIG.
- Develop a pediatric endocrine APP onboarding education program for novice pediatric endocrine APPs.
- Share knowledge and expertise through periodic APP member case conferences.
- Explore APP research opportunities.
Leadership
Chair (one) and Co-Chair (up to two) positions will be chosen by election every three years. Nominations will open in January of the election year, and the election will be held in March and April of the election year. Leadership positions are only open to APP members. All current APP SIG members will have voting privileges, regardless of profession. The leadership transition will occur at the annual PES conference in the year of the election. PES APP SIG chair and co-chair(s) are expected to be present at the annual conference or provide a proxy for their roles at the annual conference.
Additionally, members may be selected by the Chair or Co-Chair(s) to serve in a supportive capacity as needed (for example, a member liaison, content expert, or workgroup leader).
Membership
Membership will be based on participant interest and will not be automatic for APP members of PES. If you are interested in joining the PES APP SIG, contact info@pedsendo.org to be connected with SIG leadership.
PES membership expires annually on December 31st. Those who wish to remain PES APP SIG members must renew their PES membership annually. The listing of PES APP SIG members will be updated on the website annually in the month following each annual conference.
Meetings
Meetings will be held via Zoom quarterly, with dates/times for meetings established one year in advance. Meeting dates/times and Zoom links will be provided one year in advance with a reminder two weeks prior to each scheduled meeting. All meetings will be recorded and provided to the whole of the PES APP SIG membership. Special sessions can be added and advertised as needed for case presentations, educational sessions, workgroup sessions, or other needs. An in-person meeting will be held each year at the annual conference.
Communication
Communication should be via the PES Online Community. If unsure how to access or use this platform, please contact George Degnon at georgeb@pedsendo.org or Maureen Thompson at maureen@degnon.org – Additionally, questions can be directed to pesappsig@gmail.com which will be maintained by the sitting PES APP SIG chair/co-chair.
