Dear Colleagues,
This month, we held the fall Board of Directors meeting. As the Board reviewed what the Committees and SIGs are doing, we were excited to see all the great work being done toward accomplishment of the PES strategic goals. When we looked at the “where are they now” surveys for past PES grant recipients and PedsENDO Discovery participants, the results suggest that the efforts made by PES to support our workforce are worthwhile. Though some of the outcomes are impossible to measure exactly, it’s rewarding to see the achievements of these members whom we have supported. We were also delighted to see the high-quality educational products that are being produced. Furthermore, advocacy remains a top priority for us. We are proud to have supported two of our PES members from states in need of representation, Dr. Jeanie Tryggestad (University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center) and Dr. Christy Foster (University of Alabama School of Medicine), who joined Endocrine Society members in the Rally for Medical Research Day on the Hill in Washington, DC on September 18 (see photo). Their rally was driven by a single message – “Fund the NIH.” Dr. Tryggestad told us “Of the 3 offices that we visited for the Oklahoma delegation, all were very supportive of continuing and increasing NIH funding,” and Dr. Foster reported “We were able to meet with both senators and three representatives. They were all very receptive and supportive of continuing and increasing support to the NIH.” We remain hopeful that will see the support for the NIH grow.

As we face all the misinformation and disinformation around us, we must continue to advocate for our patients. As the namesake of my medical school, Albert Einstein, said (albeit translations vary): “The world is not dangerous because of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything.”
Sincerely,
