Riomet ER™ (metformin hydrochloride for extended-release oral suspension) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) on August 29, 2019 and became available in the US at the end of February, 2020.
Riomet ER™ is dosed once daily and is currently the only FDA-approved liquid formulation of extended-release metformin. This may be an option for patients who are unable to swallow tablets and have gastrointestinal intolerance to immediate release preparations.
