Alan D. Rogol, MD, Ph.D
Fondly known as “EC”, Dr. Colle was born in Minneapolis, MN, and completed undergraduate and medical (1950) studies at the University of Minnesota. Working with Robert Ulstrom she published a landmark paper on ketotic hypoglycemia (J Pediatr 1964; 64:632) and a series on adrenocortical steroid metabolism in newborn infants J Clin Endocrinol Metab (1960-1962). She moved to the Montreal Children’s Hospital in 1962 and became Director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and of the Hormone Laboratory. She continued her studies of multiple pediatric endocrine conditions, but in the 1980’s shifted her focus to evaluate the pathophysiology of autoimmune diabetes mellitus in both experimental animals and children (reviewed in Crit Rev Immunol 1989; 9:45; Diabetes Metab Rev 1990; 6:63).
