Mission Statement

Ethical dilemmas frequently arise in the care of pediatric patients. Our mission is to identify and address ethical considerations in pediatric endocrinology. Our goals are to ensure that ethical principles are 1) considered in the development of new practice guidelines, and 2) integrated both into fellow training and into ongoing medical education after the completion of fellowship.

Goals and Objectives

• Goals
  1. The Ethics SIG will continue to plan symposia at the annual PES meetings.
  2. Ethics modules have been developed by the Ethics SIG (previously a committee) over the past 5-7 years, and are currently available on the PES website for general member use. To widen distribution, we will 1) work with MOC committee to assign MOC category 2 credit for modules, and 2) work with training committee to integrate modules into fellowship core curriculum.
  3. Ethical issues should be considered in the development of new practice guidelines as appropriate. If a new PES guideline is likely to involve a considerable ethical dimension, we recommend that the SIG to be involved in the planning stages; a point person from the SIG could be designated.

  1. Will work with MOC committee to assign MOC category 2 credits to ethics modules to increase utilization among faculty.
  2. Will work with training committee to encourage distribution and utilization of ethics modules as part of fellowship curriculum.
  3. Will continue to plan the ethics symposium for the PES meeting.
