SUMMARY:PES Bone & Mineral SIG: Current and emerging treatments for hypoparathyroidism
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, July 17\, 2025 \nSession Type SIG: State of the Art: Bone & Mineral SIG \nSession Title Current and emerging treatments for hypoparathyroidism \nBrief Description \nHypoparathyroidism remains a challenging condition to manage in children. Unlike many endocrine hormone deficiencies\, hormone replacement has never been approved for use in children with parathyroid hormone deficiency. The current standard of care of multiple daily doses of calcium and calcitriol is burdensome\, provides inadequate control of hypocalcemic symptoms\, and is associated with high risk of side effects including nephrocalcinosis. Recent years have seen exciting advancements with a number of new PTH replacement and PTH receptor analog therapies gaining approval in adults and entering into clinical trials for children. This state of the art session will be delivered by Dr Peter Tebben\, a combined pediatric and adult endocrinologist with specific expertise in the management of hypoparathyroidism across the lifespan. Because hypoparathyroidism is widely managed by both general endocrinologists and bone health sub-specialists\, we expect this lecture will be of broad interest to PES members \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nRecognize the typical clinical presentation of hypoparathyroidism\nLearn the pathophysiology underlying genetic and acquired forms of hypoparathyroidism\nBecome familiar with current and emerging therapies for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism\n\nSpeaker Name \nPeter Tebben\, MD\nDirector\, Yale Bone Center\nSection of Endocrinology\nYale New Haven Hospital and Yale School of Medicine \nRegister Here
