SUMMARY:PES Webinar: Pediatric Hypertriglyceridemia: Case-Based Algorithms
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, January 8\, 2026\, 7-8pET – State of the Art: Lipid SIG  \nSession Title: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPediatric Hypertriglyceridemia: Case-Based Algorithms\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrief Description:\n\n\nPediatric hypertriglyceridemia is a clinically significant and increasingly recognized condition with implications for both acute and long-term health. Pediatric endocrinologists play a key role in identifying\, stratifying\, and managing this lipid disorder\, which may range from mild elevations to life-threatening severe hypertriglyceridemia associated with pancreatitis. Given the complex interplay between genetic\, metabolic\, and secondary causes\, pediatric endocrine providers must be equipped with practical\, pathophysiology-based approaches to diagnosis and management. Early\, targeted intervention can prevent complications and reduce cardiovascular risk later in life. This case-based session will empower clinicians with actionable algorithms tailored to severity and etiology\, enhancing the precision of care for affected children and adolescents. \nLearning objectives:  \n\nEvaluate hypertriglyceridemia by severity and align first-line interventions with each tier.\nIllustrate a risk-stratified algorithm that matches interventions to underlying pathophysiology\nDistinguish monogenic severe hypertriglyceridemia from multifactorial/polygenic causes and tailor therapy accordingly.\n\nSpeaker:  \nAmbika P. Ashraf MD\, FAAP\, FNLA\nRalph Frohsin Endowed Chair in Pediatric Endocrinology\nDivision Director/ Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes\nAssociate Director\, Comprehensive Diabetes Center\nProfessor of Pediatrics/Heersink School of Medicine\nThe University of Alabama at Birmingham
