DESCRIPTION:Description: \nWithin the past several years\, there have been major therapeutic advances and new clinical trial data on the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and its relationship to cardiovascular disease (CVD). New medications that either function within the liver to prevent protein production using anti-sense technologies and monoclonal antibodies that target proteins that block triglyceride clearance are in late stage clinical development. These drugs promise a treatment for triglyceride-induced pancreatitis. But will these triglyceride reductions affect development of CVD? Genetics implicates genes associated with defective plasma triglyceride catabolism with CVD.
